Columbia Energy Association | Exciting GridTech Hackathon Announcements and SF Trek Applications

Hello Columbia Energy Enthusiasts,

We are counting down the days to spring break! But before we all head off, there's a packed stretch of events and deadlines you won't want to miss. From our inaugural Cross-Columbia GridTech Hackathon to our flagship Bay Area Trek, we have some exciting events on the horizon.

Make sure to read through the newsletter below to learn more about the GridTech Hackathon line-up of expert mentors and a special alumni-only event hosted by CENA later this month!


UPCOMING CEA EVENTS

We are less than a month away from our first ever Cross-Columbia GridTech Hackathon. And CEA is proud to announce our line-up of mentors, judges AND a newly added prize!

Introducing your mentors:

Hackathon Mentors Announcement
We have a wide range of expertise including the former President of NYSERDA and LIPA to founders, lawyers, investors, and policymakers that will serve to support and guide your ideas for solving NY’s grid challenges!

Introducing your judges:

Our three judges represent three leading New York energy organizations, and are joining us with decades of experience.

The top three teams selected by our judges will be awarded:

  • A Pitch Deck Workshop with Mike Lightman from Hate Your Deck!
  • A Regulatory Strategy Session with the CEO of the NY Department of Public Service
  • A fundraising strategy session with an investor at Alumni Ventures
  • A Working Styles Assessment with Tim Hoffman from ClimateTech Expertise Network

And newly added:

  • A dedicated session with National Grid Partners Innovation team, National Grid’s venture capital and innovation arm. The winning team will have the opportunity to present their idea and receive pitch and feedback guidance from industry innovators

These prizes, with over 5K in value, are designed to afford students with the opportunity to carry their product forward after the hackathon!

CEA SF Trek

Join CEA for the annual SF Bay Area trek to meet with Google, PG&E and other leaders in energy and climate!
 

Students who join the SF trek will gain direct access to leading climate tech firms as well as strategic networking with a dedicated happy hour with local alumni. Learn more about the trip details by checking out our information deck.
 

Applications are live and reviewed on a rolling basis. Final deadline is March 18th ⏳

EVENTS FOR CEA ALUMNI

Columbia Energy Alumni (CENA) is hosting an alumni happy hour!
When: Thursday, March 26 at 7:30-9:30PM
Where: Crown Alley, 263 W 19th St

Reconnect with the Columbia energy community at the CENA Happy Hour at Crown Alley in Chelsea! Chat with old friends, meet some new faces, and talk about all things energy. The $15 ticket price includes one drink (draft beers, any cocktail/mocktail, wine and any liquor besides premium drinks).

Inside North American Power Markets: Risks, Opportunities, and Careers
When: Thursday, March 12 at 5PM
Where: Online (Register here)

Hosted by the Sustainable Business Working Group, this event will provide insight into the North American power markets by practitioner, Patrick Huang. Patrick is a senior analyst on Wood Mackenzie’s North America power service team. He primarily focuses on the Midcontinent ISO region and ongoing developments in utility scale storage, while also supporting the improvement and building of data and analytics tools.
